  30.         Election Day requires a registration number to operate in
  31.         registered mode. When you register this program you will receive
  32.         a registration number that is unique to you. No two numbers are
  33.         the same. Place your personal registration number on the second
  34.         line of the sysop.cfg file.
  35.         If you have registered this program then your name will
  36.         appear on the opening screen.

  44.         Election Day is a popular voting booth door for all BBS's.
  45.         Voting Booths are extremely popular with users on any Bulletin
  46.         Board Service. They allow you to get feedback from users while
  47.         providing a fun atmosphere for everyone.

  87.                                 REQUIREMENTS

  90.         You need an IBM compatible computer and a BBS. Election 
  91.         Day will work with TriBBS, Wildcat, PC Board, Spitfire,
  92.         RBBS, WWIV, Gap, Synchronet, Renegade, Remote Access,
  93.         and other BBS's that can run one of these doors.
  94.         It is assumed that you are familiar with your BBS software
  95.         and have installed other doors. If not, step by step instructions
  96.         are provided for some boards. This program may also be run in
  97.         local mode without a BBS (see below).

  100.                                 INSTALLATION

  103.         Create a directory for The Program. Preferably in your
  104.         BBS directory. You can name it whatever you want. For example,
  105.         if you want to create a directory called "vote" in your BBS
  106.         directory, from the Dos prompt type "cd c:\bbs", then type
  107.         "md vote". Don't type the quotation marks.
  108.         This assumes your BBS is on your c: drive. If it's on another
  109.         drive, substitute the appropriate letter.
  110.  
  111.         After you create the directory, unzip the archive contents
  112.         into it. Next you'll need to create a configuration file or modify
  113.         the "eday.cfg" file included with the archive. This is an ascii
  114.         text file that can be created or edited with any text editor.
  115.         The configuration file MUST be in the same directory as Election
  116.         Day. It has the following format:
  117.  
  118.                 Line 1:  Door data type (see below)
  119.                 Line 2:  Path to Door data file (dropfile)
  120.                 Line 3:  BBS name
  121.                 Line 4:  Sysop's name
  122.                 Line 5:  Locked baud rate
  123.  
  124.         Line 1 is the Door data file type and can be any of the following
  125.         TRIBBS for TriBBS                    ; TRIBBS.SYS
  126.         PCB    for PC Board                  ; PCBOARD.DAT, PCBOARD.SYS
  127.         GAP    for Gap                       ; DOOR.SYS
  128.         SF     for Spitfire                  ; SFDOORS.DAT
  129.         RBBS   for RBBS                      ; DORINF0#.DEF
  130.         WC     for Wildcat                   ; CALLINFO.BBS
  131.         WWIV   for WWIV                      ; ????????.???

  133.         * Note that TriBBS can run doors with any of the configuration
  134.           dropfiles above. Remote Access may use either GAP or RBBS.
  135.           Other BBS packages may work with multiple dropfiles, but
  136.           make sure you choose only one.

  138.         The other lines should be self-explainatory. Here's a sample
  139.         config file:

  147.         This would configure The program to run on a TriBBS
  148.         system. It assumes the BBS is in the "tribbs" directory. Other
  149.         Sample configuration files can be found at the end of this file.

  151.         Next you must edit the sysop.cfg file for your system.
  152.  
  153.                           SYSOP.CFG INSTRUCTIONS
  154.                           ----------------------
  155.         This configuration file MUST be present and MUST be named
  156.         "sysop.cfg". The file is only three lines and the format
  157.         is as follows:
  158.  
  159.         Line 1 is the name of the person this program is registered to.
  160.         Line 2 is your registration number, or 0 if unregistered.
  161.         Line 3 is the Sysop security level for accessing the Sysop Editor.
  162.         Line 4 is security level for entering new questions.
  163.         Line 5 is one character, either A if your BBS uses Alias's
  164.                or R if your BBS uses Real names. Use capital letters.
  165.  
  166.         All five lines must be present and there must not be any blank lines.
  167.         A sample sysop.cfg file is also included with instructions contained
  168.         in the file.

  170.         Here is a sample sysop.cfg file from Atlantis BBS

  178.         The next step is to create a batch file to call the door. Each
  179.         BBS is different, so it's assumed you know how to create one
  180.         for your system. Here's a sample batch file for TriBBS:

  182.                 cd c:\tribbs\eday
  183.                 eday eday.cfg
  184.                 cd c:\tribbs
  185.                 board
  186.  
  187.         The first line changes to the directory where The program
  188.         is located.
  189.         The second line calls the door followed by the configuration file.
  190.         You MUST include the name of the configuration file, although you
  191.         can name it anything you like.
  192.         Non-standard IRQ's are supported by adding the IRQ number(0-15) to
  193.         the end of the second line (eday eday.cfg 6).
  194.         The third and fourth lines return you to the board.
  195.         Each system will be a little different, the one line that will
  196.         be same for every batch file is the second one.
  197.         Finally, edit your bbs files to display the door name and call
  198.         the batch file when selected. You're on your own here!

  200.         This program can easily be run from your Main Menu on
  201.         systems with extendable menus. It is recommended you do run
  202.         the program from the Main Menu if your system supports this.

  204.         To set up Election Day as a Main Menu item on a Tribbs
  205.         system, name the above batch file "mainv", then edit your
  206.         main.mnu file to call the batch file by adding the following
  207.         line:
  208.         V,V,Election Day,20
  209.  
  210.         This will call up Election Day whenever the letter V is
  211.         selected from the Main Menu. You may use any availabe letter
  212.         that you like, just substitute the letter you want to use for
  213.         the letter V in all instances above, including the batch file.
  214.         The number at the end of the line is the minumum security level
  215.         a user must have to be able use this program. Adjust this
  216.         to your liking.

  220.                                  OPERATION

  223.         This program may be run locally if you wish. If you want
  224.         to run the door without going through the BBS, make the directory
  225.         where the program is stored the current directory. From the Dos
  226.         prompt type "eday eday.cfg local". You will prompted to enter a
  227.         user name. Whatever name you type in will be used for your Alias.
  228.  
  229.         When Election Day loads you will see a list of commands.
  230.         Here are the Main Menu commands:
  231.      
  232.         V - Vote On Topic:
  233.             This command lets you vote on any available topic.
  234.             You may also add your own response.
  235.  
  236.         R - Results:
  237.             Displays voting results for a selected question
  238.             or all questions.
  239.  
  240.         H - Help:
  241.             Shows information screen.
  242.  
  243.         E - Enter New Topic:
  244.             Let's you create a new question and responses for that
  245.             question. Anyone who's access level is equal to or greater
  246.             than that specified in the sysop.cfg file will be able to
  247.             enter new questions. If you don't want users to enter new
  248.             questions, set this value to the same as the Sysop security
  249.             level.

  251.         Q - Quit and Return to the BBS:
  252.             Exits Election Day and returns to the bbs.

  254.         S - Sysop Editor:
  255.             This choice is only displayed when the user has Sysop security
  256.             level as declared on line 3 of the Sysop.cfg file.
